Having an Awesome Marriage – Improving Communication in Your Marriage Today!
There are several ways to help you today have the marriage you want. If having open dialogue with your spouse is important to you. And you’re wanting to improve the way you and your spouse communicate, the following tips can help you now.
Tip One: Many Communication Struggles Start with Feeling a Lack of Connection
Many of our communication struggles in our marriages come from feeling disconnected to each other. Have you ever noticed that when you’re feeling emotionally connected or in-sync that the communication between you seems to flow better. You feel better understood. Your partner feels appreciated.
But when you’re feeling disconnected emotionally, and also physically, the communication between you will likely suffer.
How to improve your emotional connection and improve your communication
The best way to do this is by having curiosity. Having curiosity for each other. For what each is feeling and thinking. When you can take an open curious stance with your spouse, you’re communicating genuine interest. There’s no agenda. No wanting to change them. Just an interest in knowing them. Knowing what they are feeling. And in return, you can ask the same of them. For them to listen to your feelings and thoughts openly. From a curious stance. Not a “I’m right and you’re wrong” stance.
Tip 2: Small and Thoughtful Things Often
This is one tip that I repeat a lot. It’s a big one. Doing small and thoughtful things often can significantly improve the connection in your marriage.
Some examples include:
- Leaving a surprise love note for each other
- Saying to each other how much you see and appreciate all they do
- Expressing your gratitude for the joys your marriage brings
- Working out together and giving each other high-fives at the end
- Turn the music on when cooking dinner and dance with each other
These are just a few examples that are small and thoughtful.
Tip 3: Marriage Counseling
Marriage Counseling can help if you’re feeling disconnected and unsure how to fix things.
Through marriage counseling with an experienced marital therapist, you can learn how to express your needs to each other. How to be heard and understood by each other. And how to love each other better.
