Online Therapy Throughout Austin & Texas
All You Wanted to Know About Online Therapy Answered
I often get asked whether I offer online therapy for couples or individuals. Many are asking because of scheduling and/or traveling constraints making it hard to drive into the office to meet face to face. Many are also asking because of childcare needs and the convenience of meeting online versus driving to an office.
For many, meeting online offers:
- Privacy to work with me, through a secure/HIPAA compliant format, in the comfort of their own home
- Convenience of not having to travel
- Scheduling based on their specific needs
- Ability to have their partner participate when one is traveling or away from home
- Ability to work with me if they live in Texas
So, to circle back around and answer the question, do I provide online therapy to new and/or existing clients? Yes! I do…
Tell me more about what online therapy is?
It’s a form of therapy where you and I would meet face to face through a computer instead of face to face in my office.
If you live in Texas but don’t live in or around Austin, Texas, and want to work with me, online therapy is a way we can work together. An important thing to remember with online therapy – no matter which therapist you choose – the therapist MUST BE LICENSED IN THE STATE YOU LIVE IN.
Online therapy is done through a secure and HIPAA compliant platform that allows us to work together in a secure and private setting.
What do I need to know about how you’re qualified as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor?
As a licensed marital therapist and individual therapist, I have studied and researched the importance of online therapy and have also researched the most secure online platforms currently available. As part of my training, I also actively participate in continuous training targeted specifically toward online therapy best practices.
Oh No…technology problems during online session, what do we do?
There are a number of ways we can work with technology when things just aren’t going the way we had hoped. We have several options if this happens during an online session.
- First, you’ll want to make sure there are no other programs currently running in the background. Online therapy platforms work at their best when they are the main ones running! Make sure you “quit” everything and not just minimized.
- If possible, try to be as close as you can to the router. This can often help with connectivity issues.
When our computer just isn’t working…we can:
- Talk over the phone
Talking over the phone is another form of what’s known as distance counseling and is an option if our computer technology isn’t working on the day we need it…
